Is RegSweep the Real Deal?

This RegSweep Review will Set the Record Straight

RegSweep Free Download

RegSweep (Registry Sweeper) 2007 Edition will be reviewed in this registry cleaner review. If you are unsure whether or not you have the need for computer registry software, you will most likely know due to slow computer problems, the need to stop computer crashes, or having computer freezes. Virus and spyware usually do not find or fix the problems when the registry is involved. RegSweep is a registry fix option to resolve issues of these types.

There are two RegSweep reviews offered below. One is a "Quick Review" for those wanting the simple details about the product. For people who want the detailed process of using RegSweep, please see the "Detailed Review" that follows the quick review.

Quick Review:

The RegSweep 2007 software is easy on the eyes which is shown in the linked screen print page.  Not that the "looks" make the software, but it is sure nice to see pleasing colors and graphics during this process. The software interface is easy to look at and easily understood, which is great for those who don't want an advanced degree in registry repair.

Ease of Use/Download:

RegSweep was a simple download and took less then two minutes from download to scan ready. As mentioned prior, the software was easy to understand and could be put to work immediately without having to take time to figure out what to do.

Unique Feature:

This is only one of two of the best registry fix software programs to have a live chat feature. There are no hours listed on the RegSweep website, but it eludes to 24/7 coverage, which is a huge bonus. It is nice to have the support though most of the products reviewed didn't even have a glitch that required a support feature.

Like Registry Easy, this software has more scan features for your money than most of the registry repair utility programs on the market. Even with the number of scan features, the program turned up only an average number of errors (discussed below).

Scanning/Repair Options:

RegSweep exceeded all expectations of scanning categories including Active X/OLE/COM, Add/Remove Programs, Application Paths, Fonts, Shared Files, Help Files, Startup Items, System Services, Drivers, File Associations, Sounds, User Settings, History/MRU lists, and Invalid Shortcuts. This covered the major sectors which makes RegSweep effective in scanning options.

Weakness:

RegSweep took over five minutes to scan my system. I had almost forgotten that I was scanning and was able to get some more coffee while I was waiting. Registry Easy was able to run multiple times in the same timeframe and detected over 2,500 errors!

Problems Fixed/Recommendation:

RegSweep fell into the category of average for me. I found 1,036 errors and reran the scan and repair two times to fix the errors and come up clean from the same software. I also had 29 errors still detected by the other two tools I used to scan afterwards. I would still recommend Registry Easy over RegSweep for the simple fact of upfront fix ability. Still, RegSweep is a great product and certainly a good one for novices. Before obtaining the full version, it is best to click on the link below and ensure that a complete registry cleaner is needed based on errors found (if any).

Detailed Review

The following are major Versions of RegSweep starting with most current:

  • RegSweep 2007

  • RegSweep 2006

This RegSweep review was completed on the 2007 Edition. The www.regsweep.com website offers a full feature listing for their current software in addition to the review done here on the major vital features.

Windows Operation Systems Serviced:

  • Windows Vista

  • Windows XP

  • Windows 2000

  • Windows ME

The RegSweep Review Process:

Initial Download

After choosing the free scan option at  www.regsweep.com the interface easily downloaded to my hard drive (see RegSweep Screen print page for full visuals). The download and navigation of the software interface were both simple to use. The software showed all of the available scanning options. Below is a list of the full scanning options available:

Available Scanning Options

Active X/OLE/COM Entries

Application Paths Font Entries
Add/Remove Programs Uninstall Entries Help Files

Invalid File Associations

Invalid Shortcuts Drivers
Shared Files Startup Items

System Services

Sounds Section History/MRU Lists User Software Settings

As evident from the screen print in the linked page the RegSweep download will serve both novice and advanced users with choices of what scanning and repair options to select. Most novice users prefer to just repair all detected errors.

The auto backup tool in RegSweep is fantastic and allows the user to forget about the updates and scans. Like the other programs reviewed, RegSweep allows the user to return to a previous restore point if need be due to overzealous scanning and repair.

Free Scan Process:

After downloading the free RegSweep interface, the scan detected 1,036 errors, which confirmed to me that I needed a full version repair. The RegSweep initial scan took 5 minutes and 37 seconds and the second scan was almost the same speed. The scan speed of any of the reviewed products is dependent upon the number of problems detected and the condition of the PC usually, but this product was a bit underpowered by the engine they use. Still, a five minute fix is better than having ongoing computer problems.

Scan Completion:

Upon the completion of scanning, RegSweep provided a description of the errors detected and offered the option to keep the items for repair or remove them from the repair. The user can then choose which files that they would like to repair and which ones to remove from the process. Many people like to turn over their registry errors to the software and just get a quick fix. This is fine since the backup feature is present.

The free scan offers to fix surface errors in certain sections. You will need the full version as the surface errors are not the ones you should be concerned about anyway. Choose the full version and just get the issue fixed instead of wasting more time.

Finalizing the Repairs:

The RegSweep software does a registry repair fix as soon as the repair button is clicked in the lower right corner ridding of the Windows Registry errors detected. See the screen print page for all snap shots of the process. As mentioned above, Reg Sweeper found 1,036 errors in my registry.

After repairing these errors, I ran two other PC registry fix programs and all errors were cleaned after the second round of scan/repair. This made me a bit weary about choosing this as a top tool compared to my others like Registry Easy. RegSweep did however, speed up the performance of the PC tested by over 20 percent after restart.

Other Observations:

If you are looking for a defrag feature and system optimization tools, this is probably not the registry repair software that you want. You may want to try Registry Easy or Registry Mechanic to accomplish these tasks. RegSweep will give you some solid scanning tools but doesn't have the other additional features that I was looking for.

RegSweep is really meant to be a straight forward scanning and repair tool. At a $29.95 price tag to clean PC registry files, you will at least have your problems fixed.

So, Should You Try RegSweep?

I would say yes to people who do want a good looking and simple tool. For those seeking more tools for their money, again I would suggest Registry Easy of all the tools reviewed in this site. I always opt for tools that will do the job right the first time and those that strive to lead their industry with up to date options. Computer registry software is vital to clean and repair registry files that are inhibiting performance.

Before you spend you hard earned money, ensure that you do indeed have registry errors before paying for a full version. That is the nice part of having free scan options.
