Are Your Computer Internet Slow Downs Getting Frustrating?

Increase your internet speeds in one sitting

If you are experiencing internet slow downs, the chances are good that your computer itself is also extremely slow. If this is the case, it is extremely realistic to fix the problems in a short amount of time without having to pay large fees for computer repair. This page will offer steps and resources to fix your issues and get your PC and internet running like new again at a small price compared to a one time fix at a PC repair shop.

If you are still on dial-up due to purely financial reasons, reconsider paying a couple dollars more to get a faster connection (if available) as your headaches will reduce greatly. If you are on dial-up, many surfing speed problems are purely due to slow connections and equipment (modem).

For others with high speed, follow the steps below to get your internet running like lightening again.

Step One: Run a Quality Spyware Software Program

Now that we have done what we can do for free (that has a chance of impacting surf speeds and slow computer), it is time to get some detection and removal software for nasty viruses and unsolicited installs on your PC.

One quality software that you can immediately download (so you don't have to wait for CD mailings or have to run to the store) is from Pareto Logic Software called XoftSpySE. It contains spyware, malware, adware, and virus components all in the same software. It is only applicable for all operating systems except Vista.

Download the software, scan your system, and choose the repair. Make sure to restart your system for the changes to take effect.

Step Two: Run an Effective Registry Repair and Cleaner Software

Since the Windows registry is like the central file storage for the operating system, it is important to ensure that the registry is maintained. With a more efficient registry you will get a more efficient and faster running computer.

One software program called Registry Easy will do cleanings, repairs, and has Internet Explorer optimizer features all in the same software. Registry Easy removes plug ins that slow down Internet Explorer and fix corrupt registry files. You can also use the same software to condense registry size and to remove junk and evidence files.

Be sure to run the free scan and find detected errors before purchasing repair feature.

Step Three: Broadband Modem Reset

It is best to start simple. Unplug your cable and wireless modem (if applicable) and keep unplugged for 30 seconds or so. Plug each back in and it should reset the system.

Step Four: Clean the History off Your Browser

One of the major problems causing computer internet slow downs is the amount of baggage the system must carry. For example, temporary internet files and browsing history each add to the speed issues with the internet.

Go to your internet settings (Internet Options) and remove temporary internet files. There will be a couple of options that come up when you choose this option in Internet Options. The options include "delete cookies," delete files, and settings. I personally keep my files and cookies constantly deleted.

Additional tools will be accomplished through the registry cleaner and repair product below on this page.

Step Five: Use Free System Resources to Remove and Condense Hard Drive Files

If you are operating through 2000 or XP, you can go to Start > Accessories > System Tools > and then choose Disk Cleanup as your first task. Do the Disk Cleanup, then Disk Defragmentation, remove unneeded tasks from "scheduled tasks," and the final step will be to set a restore point on your PC (also in system tools). Don't actually do a restore unless completely necessary (as a final step).

Step Six: Remove Unneeded Software from Your PC

Simply put, if you are not using a program or don't plan to in the next 3-6 months, take the program off your computer for now. To complete this task, go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Choose the programs you wish to remove from the "currently installed programs" menu and get the item off your PC. Feels great, doesn't it!

Other Tips to Increase Internet Speeds:

1. Check connections. Make sure that each of your connections is up to par and that phone lines are not corrupt.

2. Check with your broadband provider about testing connection speeds. Do several tests and average out.

3. Try to avoid high traffic times when many people are on the same servers at the same time.

4. Upgrade your speed through provider. There are many services available (in most areas) and you are not stuck with your current speeds.

5. If all else fails, do a full system restore back to factory condition and reinstall vital programs that you use. This is time consuming but definitely an option if all else fails.

6. Set up a firewall to be in control of what programs have access to the net and vice versa.

7. If your computer equipment (hardware) is outdated, it may be time to upgrade since prices are great on computers these days.

If you do the steps detailed here, computer internet slow downs will be a thing of the past.
